KEEP YOUR MEDICAL KIT COMPLIANT, CLINICALLY CURRENT & READY FOR THE NEXT FLIGHT

Annual refurbishment is a regulatory requirement. MedAire handles the complete process: inspection, replacement, content updates, recertification, and return, so your kit is inspection-ready when it comes back.

Operators Served

Who Uses Kit Refurbishment

From single aircraft operations to commercial fleets, refurbishment keeps aircraft medical kits compliant, inspection-ready, and documented.

Chief Pilots and Directors of Aviation

Chief Pilots and Directors of Aviation managing corporate or charter flight departments rely on annual kit refurbishment to keep their aircraft compliant and inspection-ready without pulling maintenance attention away from flight operations.

Flight Operations and Safety Teams

Flight Operations and Safety teams at commercial airlines use MedAire's refurbishment service to maintain consistent medical kit compliance across their fleet, supported by traceability documentation and Certificates of Conformance for audit purposes.

Aircraft Management Companies and Charter Operators

Aircraft management companies and charter operators use the service to manage refurbishment cycles across multiple aircraft and multiple owners on a repeatable, documented schedule.

Operators with Recently Acquired Aircraft

Operators who have recently acquired an aircraft with an existing MedAire kit can submit it for refurbishment regardless of membership status. No existing account is required.

Operators Whose Kit Was Used During a Flight

Any operator whose kit was used during a flight and whose inventory has fallen below regulatory minimums should initiate refurbishment before the next flight, not at the next annual cycle.

How It Works

Submit, inspect, replace, recertify, return

MedAire handles the complete process so your kit comes back updated, documented, and ready to use.

01

Submit

Complete your regional refurbishment form and ship it with your kit to the designated facility. Tail number and kit serial number are collected at this stage for traceability.

02

Inspect

MedAire or its approved supplier inspects the returned kit. Expired, used, and near-expiry items are identified.

03

Replace and update

Items are replaced with current supplies. Kit contents are updated in line with regulatory requirements, evolving medical standards, and data from over [[fnf:medaire_years_open]] years of in-flight medical events.

04

Recertify

A Certificate of Conformance is issued. The kit is recertified against applicable aviation requirements with full product, batch, and expiry traceability maintained throughout.

05

Return

Your kit is shipped back using approved methods. Standard turnaround for North America is next-business-day shipment when received before the daily cutoff. Rush options are available.

Need to keep flying while your kit is out? Exchange kits are available in select regions. You receive a fully refurbished kit, then return your expiring one within 30 days.

What Gets Updated, and Why

Refurbishment is not just parts replacement

Kit contents are reviewed against three inputs each cycle.

Regulatory changes

When authorities update kit requirements, contents are adjusted to maintain compliance.

Medical best practice

An expert panel of aviation medical professionals reviews kit contents annually to reflect current clinical standards.

In-flight event data

With over [[fnf:lifetime_inflight_cases]] lifetime in-flight cases managed and more than [[fnf:kits_built_total]] medical kits built in [[fnf:fnf_year]] alone, MedAire's refurbishment process is informed by the largest body of aviation medical case data available. Contents reflect what crews actually encounter in the air, not just what regulations require.

This is why a refurbished kit is not the same kit returned with new expiry dates. It is a kit that reflects current operational and clinical reality.

Clinical review Contents are reviewed against real aviation medical support experience.

Operational use The kit, MedLink guidance, and crew training reinforce each other.

Questions and answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers for operators deciding whether to submit, exchange, or schedule refurbishment for one aircraft or a fleet.

How often should a medical kit be refurbished?

Annually. Kits contain medications and consumables with expiration dates that must be replaced to maintain regulatory compliance. Operating with an expired kit risks non-compliance and leaves your aircraft without a fully stocked kit if a medical event occurs.

Can I fly while my kit is being refurbished?

If you need to maintain operations during the refurbishment window, contact your account manager before shipping. Exchange kit options are available in select regions and can keep you compliant without grounding your aircraft.

Can MedAire provide an exchange kit?

Yes, in select regions. You receive a fully refurbished kit first, then return your expiring kit within 30 days. Availability varies by region; contact your account manager to confirm.

Can MedAire refurbish a kit from a newly acquired aircraft?

Yes, regardless of membership status. Contact MedAire directly to discuss your requirements.

Can MedAire do AED exchanges?

No. AED manufacturers track serial numbers and ownership for recall management, so unit exchanges are not available through MedAire. Battery replacements and AED supply needs can be addressed through your regional refurbishment form.

Does Kit Refurbishment cover the DAK?

No. The Digital Assessment Kit does not need to be returned for resupply. Contact your account manager to discuss DAK resupply separately.

How much does refurbishment cost?

Pricing varies based on your contract and membership status. Contact your account manager for specific pricing.
