At 07:00 the client called MedAire from Mahé, Seychelles, presenting with 5+ days of abdominal pain. Other symptoms included: Nausea, vomiting and jaundice.
MedAire arranges immediate transfer to a nearby hospital within our approved network.
- 11:20: MedAire identify Air evacuation option in Nairobi
- 14:15 Client authorises Air evacuation
- 16:00: Plane departs Nairobi for Mahé
- 20:15 Plane arrives Mahé and departs within one hour
- 04:15: Patient arrives in Johannesburg for transfer to the hospital
The client was diagnosed with Acute pancreatitis and was operated on in South Africa, following the evacuation

This remarkable achievement provided a much-improved patient outcome and is testament both to the maturity of our medical and Air Evacuation networks and the expertise of our medical teams.
The evacuation was complete within 24 hours of the initial call, with a few key successes including
- Initial recommendation > activation of Air Ambulance = 3 hours (arranging permits etc can sometimes take as long as 48 hours)
- Activation of Air Ambulance > Air Ambulance departing to pick up the patient = 2 hours
