Ensure the safety and wellbeing of your crew
As the yachting season in the northern hemisphere approaches, ensuring your superyacht is fully prepared is crucial for the health, safety, and wellbeing of everyone onboard.
Our pre-season checklist provides a comprehensive guide to help you prepare in advance and receive seamless support and assistance when required. Following the steps below will help ensure your vessel and crew are equipped for a smooth and safe season ahead.
Medical kits and equipment
- Review medical supplies: Check expiration dates and ensure you have all necessary medications onboard—if required, request a replenishment from MedAire. Correctly store any newly received medications and receipt the order in MediTrack so our medical team can view your inventory.
- Crew medications: Stock up on additional medications for your crew via the MedAire eShop. Consider guest profiles—especially for charters, older guests, or children. MedAire can provide tailored recommendations.
- Equipment maintenance: Ensure all medical equipment is in good working order. Check pads and batteries for defibrillators and review your onboard oxygen kit.
Crew medical training
- Standard operating procedures: Include information about your MedAire membership within your SOPs. Inform and remind crew about available services and how to engage them.
- Annual medical training: Arrange annual medical training if it hasn’t been conducted yet to ensure your crew can effectively handle medical situations.
Voyage preparation
- Maritime Risk Map: View health and security risks for any global location and export to PDF to brief crew and guests. Sign up for email alerts about changes or risks at your destination.
- Bespoke support: If you require more detail than is available in the portal, request additional reports through our partners at Risk Intelligence, including Voyage Risk Assessments and Security Risk Assessments. Find out more or contact your Account Manager to explore options and other consultancy services.
Membership and assistance
- MedLink subscription: Verify your MedAire membership (MedLink) is active and renew if necessary. Complete your Operations and Billings Procedures form to avoid delays in accessing assistance.
- Mental health support: The summer season can challenge mental wellbeing (demanding guests, lack of sleep, personal issues). Consider adding emotional support to your MedAire subscription to provide structured counselling that helps crewmembers develop coping mechanisms during times of struggle.
- Client portal: Ensure crewmembers save the digital membership card to their phone’s wallet (under “What to expect when calling MedLink” in the client portal). If there are health risks at your destination, raise awareness by downloading health posters or request more information from MedAire.
- Scenario drills: Make a test call (anytime) or schedule a scenario drill (at least one week in advance) with MedLink to ensure your crew is prepared for medical emergencies.
Expert care. Everywhere.
By following these steps, your crew will have the right education, equipment, and expertise to handle situations effectively and work seamlessly with MedAire. Whether it’s a serious medical emergency or a routine health query, we support your crew 24/7/365.
