Pandemic Preparedness
New CDC Guidelines

Saturday, February 04, 2012

The CDC has issued new guidelines for cleaning aircraft after a bird strike in H5N1 infected areas. Aircraft that collide with a bird in H5N1 infected areas present a potential threat to the crew who may be exposed during cleaning. The blood, secretions, excrement, feathers, etc. are all potentially infectious and potentially present a threat to flight and maintenance crews. Following simple guidelines for the use of personal protection equipment and cleaning guidelines will reduce the risk of infection. The CDC recommends that these guidelines be followed whenever a bird strike occurs during takeoff, landing or flying over an H5N1 affected country.
