PHOENIX – May 4, 2010 – Flight departments required to incorporate safety management systems (SMS) by November 2010 are relying on MedAire, the aviation medical services company, to satisfy the medical component. The International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Annex 6 Part 2 mandates general aviation aircraft operators flying internationally implement an SMS to mitigate risk and improve safety.
International flight departments can comply with ICAO’s requirements by registering with the International Business Aviation Council’s (IBAC) code of best practices, known as the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO).
To meet the needs of each flight operation, MedAire helps satisfy IS-BAO medical recommendations via:
- Annual cabin and flight crew medical training, including first aid and the location, operation and use of equipment, through MedAire’s signature course, Management of In-flight Illness and Injury.
- Aviation-specific AEDs for onboard use by crew and passengers, including annual refurbishment and battery replacement throughout its lifecycle, managed by MedAire.
- SMS best practices such as in-flight and ground-based medical and travel advice, and aviation-specific medical first aid equipment.
“Many of our clients already choose the gold standard of medical safety and preparedness,” says MedAire CEO Grant Jeffery. “For those who are preparing for the November deadline, MedAire is uniquely qualified to assist with implementation since our experts have worked closely with IBAC on developing IS-BAO medical guidelines and recommendations.”
