Manual of In-Flight Medical Care, 2nd Edition, Released by MedAire Inc.

Aviation Medical Textbook Designed for Pilots and Flight Attendants

PHOENIX, Ariz. – July 30, 2008 MedAire Inc. (www.MedAire.com), an international provider of in-flight medical training, medical kits and medical expertise for pilots and flight attendants, has updated its Manual of In-Flight Medical Care, the only full-color guide available to the aviation industry with step-by-step instructions on managing in-flight illness and injury.

As a supplement to MedAire’s Management of In-flight Illness & Injury course, the revised second edition textbook addresses recent changes to the aviation industry and highlights advances in medical care and treatment.

“The medical industry is constantly revising life support techniques, and it’s important for us to share new information with our clients,” explained Vice President of Education Services and Quality Richard Gomez. “Our second edition includes the same user-friendly color-coded sections, loose-leaf, customizable design, full illustrations and color photography – along with layperson explanations that enable crew to confidently deal with in-flight medical situations, step-by-step. But it also addresses critical, updated medical content as well.”

The second edition Manual of In-Flight Medical Care includes the following additions:

  • Updated CPR information, including the latest guidelines for “Hands-Only” CPR
  • Pediatric Automated External Defibrillator (AED) guidelines
  • Multilanguage glossary for translation of medical terms in 10 languages
  • Updated travel health information addressing worldwide disease and emerging disease
  • New personal protection equipment information
  • Updated infectious disease information and reporting protocol to the Centers for Disease Control
  • Pandemic planning tips
  • CD version of the textbook (included with each manual)

Written by medical professionals, the step-by-step instruction in the manual is based on tried-and-true teaching methods and actual in-flight medical situations. While the manual is not available as a stand-alone resource, it is provided to pilots and flight attendants in business and commercial aviation who attend MedAire’s initial and recurrent Management of In-flight Illness & Injury courses, beginning in August 2008.
