Treatment
Typical treatment is symptomatic in nature and includes rest, fluid replacement and analgesia. Aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories should be avoided since they interfere with platelet function.
These symptoms generally resolve in 5-7 days although fatigue may last for several weeks afterwards.
Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever
The mortality rate for DHS & DSS is dependant upon on the prevention or early recognition and treatment of shock. The early use of IV fluids and plasma or volume expanders can keep the mortality low, at or around 1%. Once the DSS has been established, mortality can reach or exceed 40%.
