MedAire Training

Hands-on Learning Offers Something for Everyone

Medical and educational professionals came together to update MedAire’s Management of In-flight Illness and Injury course in 2010. The new course offers students hands-on classroom exercises, using real-life scenarios and combines best practices in classroom principles and learning techniques.

Classroom and e-Learning Flexibility
In an effort to provide customers more flexible training options, MedAire has replaced its two-day e-Initial course, which included 1.5 days of classroom hours plus e-Learning, with a one-day e-Initial course that includes eight classroom hours plus e-Learning. This alleviates a full day of classroom training for busy pilots and crew.

Course options:

  • 2-day initial
  • 1-day initial course + e-Learning
  • 1-day recurrent
  • 1/2-day recurrent + e-Learning

Proficiency in hands-on skills is evaluated in the classroom through students’ successful demonstration of the steps required to manage medical events.

Modules Included in Coursework
Whether taking the 2-day initial course, the 1-day recurrent course or a combination of class plus e-Learning, students of MedAire’s Management of In-flight Illness and Injury course will become proficient in the following areas:

  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED)* – Learn when and how to use an AED, and for what symptoms to watch in crew and passengers.
  • Aviation Environment* – Understand the unique aviation environment, including altitude physiology, effects of hypoxia and the challenges of managing events in confined spaces.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) * – Guidelines for CPR change throughout the years, based on studies and actual use.
  • Fit-to-Fly – Working odd hours on the road can make it difficult to maintain focus on your health.
  • Aviation Medical and Traumatic Events – Learn to recognize and manage various medical and traumatic events that could occur in-flight or on the ground.
  • Membership Resources* – Learn how to make the most of your MedAire membership benefits.
  • Relief of Choking* – Learn to manage patients in a confined space while they are choking.
  • Travel Health Preparedness* – Become familiar with how to prevent and treat illness and injury before, during and after traveling.
  • Victim Assessment – Learn to assess a victim from head to toe, and be prepared to provide medical information to MedLink in an emergency.

*These six modules are offered in MedAire’s e-Learning course, which is taken in conjunction with classroom training.
