International SOS, the world's leading international healthcare, medical and security assistance, and concierge services company, has activated local security, medical and logistics resources in Libya and has begun the evacuation of several clients with personnel in country. In support of the operation in Libya, International SOS has activated a crisis management team in London supported by its alarm centers in Philadelphia, Paris, and Dubai.
International SOS encourages its clients to call one of its 28 alarm centers for help if evacuating travelers and expatriates from Libya. Additional information is available via the International SOS membership website (www.internationalsos.com) within the Travel Security Online section.
Travel Advice to our Clients
International SOS and Control Risks are closely monitoring the developing situation in Libya. Our current advice includes:
- Defer all but essential travel to Libya. While we are not yet recommending evacuation, the security environment is fluid and uncertain, particularly outside the capital Tripoli. Essential travel to cities severely affected by unrest should only be undertaken with robust security planning and support.
- Defer all travel to the north-eastern city of Benghazi. Personnel in Benghazi should avoid all movement at this time and remain in secure accommodation.
- We continue to advise travellers to seek professional security advice and liaise closely with the Libyan security forces prior to travel in border areas with Niger, Chad and Sudan; a secure escort may be necessary in some areas (subject to itinerary).
Note: Our full travel security advice is updated as the situation evolves. Kindly check the Travel Security Online website to ensure you have the latest information.
